People ask me a lot of questions about the system of Reiki. Some come from my students, some from people who have wandered into a class not quite knowing why, and a great many from the internet, where the questions get more interesting every year. Can you accidentally give someone Reiki on the bus? Did Hawayo Takata make it all up? Why does my cat sit on my clients? I have been practising and teaching the system of Reiki since 1999, and I still think these questions are the best part of the job, because behind every odd one is a real person trying to work out what this practice actually is.

So I answer them. My answers are grounded in the Japanese roots of the practice, in what Mikao Usui and his early students taught, and in more than twenty-five years of watching what works and what doesn’t.
