Can Reiki help with grief?
September 28, 2026
I told my doctor I do Reiki and she laughed
September 30, 2026Yes, for sure. Many of my students are massage therapists or yoga teachers, and they combine the system of Reiki with what they already do. The one rule is to be upfront: tell your clients what you are doing, whether you are adding a Reiki treatment to another practice or adding another practice to Reiki treatment.
I am guessing you mean the system of Reiki here, because spiritual energy does not make sense in that sentence. So, can you combine the system of Reiki with other therapies? Yes, you can, for sure.
I get a lot of students who are massage therapists, and lots who are yoga practitioners. (This is my cat, Charlie, by the way. Hi, Charlie.)
So you can definitely do Reiki with something else, as long as you tell your clients that is what you are doing. Be upfront. Do not pretend you are just doing Reiki when you are combining practices with it, and the other way around: if you are doing something else and add the Reiki practice to it, let your clients know.
When this happens. Nearly always with practitioners who came to the system from bodywork, yoga, counselling or nursing, and want to know whether they now have to keep two separate practices.
What is actually going on. The system of Reiki is a way of being in the room, not a set of movements that clash with other movements. Hands-on healing fits inside a massage; the precepts fit inside a counselling session; Joshin Kokyu Ho fits inside a yoga class.
What to do. Name it. On your website, in your intake form and at the start of the session: “I work with the system of Reiki alongside massage.” Then keep your Reiki self-practice separate and daily, so the two do not blur into one for you.
Ask your teacher this. “How do you keep the system of Reiki distinct when you combine it?” A teacher who combines practices themselves will have thought about this.

Bring your other practice with you into Shinpiden+; many of the people there are combining, too.
