No. I learned the system of Reiki before I was pregnant, and practising it while pregnant was one of the most wonderful things I have done: hands-on healing with the baby, breathing into the deep belly, and feeling connected to everything with a child who was already part of that. Treatments from a partner or friend are lovely too. If you are pregnant, go and learn.

I had learned the system of Reiki before I was pregnant, and it was the most wonderful thing to be able to practise while I was pregnant. Hands-on healing on the baby: such a great way to feel connected to this child before it is even born.
Absolutely amazing meditation, too. That whole physicality of breathing into my deep belly, feeling connected to everything, and knowing that my child was already experiencing this sense of oneness with everything, in a more conscious way. It is a beautiful thing.
And it is lovely for other people, your partner, your friends, to go for a treatment. So if you are pregnant, go and learn the system of Reiki, and you can be there for your child in every possible way.
When this happens. The question might come from someone wanting to have a treatment when pregnant and wondering whether to book.
What is actually going on. Hands-on healing is resting the hands gently on the body, and the meditations are breathing. Neither does anything to a pregnancy that a warm hand or a slow breath would not. The idea that Reiki is a force that could harm a baby comes from thinking of it as something sent rather than something you are already.
What to do. Practitioners can practise as they did before, adjusting position for comfort as the baby grows: side-lying or seated rather than flat on the back later on. Hands on the belly, breath into the hara, precepts each morning.
When to get help. The system of Reiki sits alongside your midwife or doctor, never instead of them. Any concern about the pregnancy itself goes to them first.
