When should you refer a client on?
October 17, 2026No. There is no reason to. You are not going in for a medical procedure and nobody is putting you under. The only practical note is that a very full stomach can feel uncomfortable lying still for an hour, so eat lightly beforehand if you can. But you do not have to fast.
That is a good question. No, you do not have to. There is absolutely no reason. You are not going in for some medical procedure, and you are not being put under. So no, you are absolutely fine.
I will say that if you go to a treatment with a really full tummy you might feel a little uncomfortable. But you do not have to fast.
When this happens. People ask this because they have read it about other therapies, or because a practitioner somewhere issued a list of rules: no coffee, no meat, no food for three hours. None of that comes from the system of Reiki.
What is actually going on. A Reiki treatment asks nothing of the body except to lie or sit still for a while. Digestion does not interfere with it, and neither does caffeine, a glass of wine the night before, or what you are wearing.
What to do. Eat as you normally would, a little lighter if your appointment is straight after a meal. Wear something comfortable, go to the loo first, and bring a bottle of water for afterwards.
When to get help. If a practitioner tells you to fast, detox or stop medication before a treatment, that is a reason to choose a different practitioner, not to comply.
