Can you be over attuned to Reiki?
September 20, 2026You cannot stop being Reiki, but you can lose strength and sensitivity. Practising the system of Reiki cultivates your own energy: meditation, hands-on healing and chanting feed and nurture the ki at the hara. Stop, and you lose a little awareness. Keep going, and you become the precepts and your life gets healthier and happier.
Isn’t that interesting? It depends what you mean. We are Reiki, but our ability to practise the system of Reiki could definitely lose its strength, because what we are doing when we practise is cultivating our own energy: when we meditate, when we practise hands-on healing, when we chant, whatever we are doing in line with the practices of the system of Reiki.
It develops our sensitivity and our energy. We are feeding the ki at the hara, nurturing that ki, cooking it up when we practise. That is what you are doing.
And if we stop, maybe we lose a little of our sensitivity, a little of our awareness. So it is definitely something we need to keep working at. The more we do it, the more we become the Reiki precepts, the better people we become, and the healthier and happier our lives are.
When this happens. After a long gap: a new baby, an illness, a move, a year of not sitting. People come back and are afraid the door has closed.
What is actually going on. Nothing has been taken away. What has faded is the sensitivity that daily practice builds, the same way a language fades. It comes back faster than it was first learned.
What to do. Do not start with a full treatment. Start with five minutes of Joshin Kokyu Ho a day for a week, then add hands on. Sensitivity returns through the breath before it returns through the hands.
Ask your teacher this. “Can I come and sit with you, or receive Reiju, to restart?” Most teachers would be glad to. Restarting with someone is easier than restarting alone.

Restart with a daily five minutes in the Shūyō app, or come back to the practice properly inside Shinpiden+.
