So what makes sleeping so difficult?
It might be menopause, PMS, IBS, restless legs, or simply needing the bathroom. But what about your habits in the hour before you go to sleep?
Watching television or scrolling at night stimulates the mind exactly when it needs to be winding down. And there is the question of what you are watching. Your body’s autonomic nervous system releases adrenaline, cortisol and norepinephrine in response to violence, horror, or anything that makes you anxious. That affects sleep quality directly, and shows up as insomnia, nightmares and disrupted sleep cycles. True crime is currently the most streamed genre on television.
It is not only our screens. The world is intense and our reach is global, so we think and talk about events happening everywhere at once. Before sleep, that can take our minds and our emotions somewhere we have no control over, and it follows us into our dreams as we try to process the day.
Years ago I studied Jungian dreamwork with Robert Bosnak, and it was eye-opening. He talks a client back into one small fragment of a dream until they truly connect with it, what he calls embodied imagination. Inside that single image sits an emotional intelligence, and through it the whole dream opens up. Those emotions show us what is happening in our waking lives. We are living the feelings of our days all over again while we sleep.
If we spend our days in anxiety, we spend our nights there too. Especially if we go straight from one to the other.
The antidote
My goal with The 7 Slumbers was to make something relaxing, wholesome and Reiki friendly that genuinely helps people wind down and fall asleep more easily.
These stories have gentle pacing, soothing repetitive imagery, and themes of harmony and connection to nature. They often follow a wise, compassionate woman who, guided by a loving divine presence or by the nurturing power of the natural world, meets a challenge and brings healing, joy and wisdom to those around her.
As they unfold they paint tranquil gardens, moonlit landscapes and the beauty of the changing seasons, inviting you to picture those scenes and find comfort in them. Their emphasis on the eternal bonds between people, nature and the divine offers a reassuring message of belonging, and that sense of safety is what eases mind and body into rest.
By the time a tale reaches its heartwarming conclusion you are left with peace, contentment, and the knowledge that you too are part of a greater, loving whole. Which is exactly the right mindset for drifting off.
How it works
Each day for seven days you receive a notification. Click it, and you arrive here with that night’s tale waiting. The stories run under ten minutes, with relaxing music continuing to around thirty to carry you the rest of the way.
This is an audio course, not a video. Close your eyes, press play, and let go.

- Wear headphones for a sense of immersion. If you do not have any, that is fine too.
- Lie down for this set of seven. It is time for you to sleep.
- Save it for last thing at night, as you are falling asleep.
- Or reach for it any time you need to calm your nervous system with a simple, relaxing story.
- Or do both. The more often you let yourself experience The 7 Slumbers, the more effect it will have on you.
