Can you lose your Reiki ability if you stop practising?

What is the difference between Reiki I, II and Shinpiden?
September 23, 2026No. The system of Reiki was founded in the early 1900s by a man who worked hard at his own healing and spirituality and passed on practices for doing the same. It is a subjective practice of self-development, so nobody can scam you with it; the only scam is someone charging a great deal of money and teaching you nothing. As in any field, there are dodgy people. Do your research.
Oh my goodness. Of course not. But in every field, medicine, law, real estate, any field, there will be people who want to rip you off, and we know that. Especially in this day and age, with the internet, we are all getting a little more used to working around that and understanding what a scam is.
The system of Reiki is definitely not a scam. It was started in the early 1900s by a man who worked quite hard at developing his own natural healing skills and spirituality, and he passed those skills on to other people, along with techniques and practices to work with them. It is all about your own wellbeing. It is a very subjective healing practice.
The best thing about it is that it is you working for yourself, really. It is not about other people. No one is going to scam you. The only way you could be scammed is if people suggest you pay them a lot of money and do not give you anything.
If you have questions, ask around. Check out your teachers, or anyone you might be going to for a treatment, if it feels a bit dodgy. There are dodgy people everywhere, but there are also lots of wonderful people. Keep to the wonderful people.
The short version. A practice cannot be a scam; only a person can. The system of Reiki asks you to sit, breathe, place your hands and be guided by the Reiki precepts. The system is empowering and once taught, nobody can take it from you.
What to look for. A teacher who practises daily themselves, who can tell you where each part of the system comes from, whose prices are in line with other teachers, and who will let you talk to former students. Be wary of guaranteed results, urgency, and new levels that appear as soon as you finish the last one.
Ask your teacher this. “What is your own daily practice?” Someone with a real answer is not scamming you, whatever else you decide about the system of Reiki.
