What does “going deeper” in Reiki actually mean?
October 22, 2026Yes, unless they are too young to understand what is being taught. Mikao Usui said in the Japanese manual that everyone can learn: children through to old people, anyone with the capacity to follow the teaching. What matters after that is going away and practising on yourself.
The real answer is yes, unless they are a baby who is not old enough to learn. Mikao Usui actually said, in the Japanese manual that exists, that everyone can learn Reiki, from children through to old people.
Anyone can learn it as long as they have the capacity to understand what is being taught. And then it is about going away and practising on yourself. Self-practice: that is the thing to do.
The short version. Yes. There is no aptitude, no sensitivity, no belief and no spiritual background required. The manual attributed to Usui says the practice is open to anyone who can follow instruction, and children learned it in his day.
A common misunderstanding. That some people are natural healers and others are not. Sensitivity grows with practice; the people who “feel nothing” at first are often the steadiest practitioners a year later.
Ask your teacher this. “What do you expect me to do every day after the course?” If the answer is vague, the course will not teach you the system of Reiki; it will only introduce you to it.
