August 27, 2026Enkaku Chiryo Ho is the practice from the system of Reiki more commonly known as distance healing. Rather than sending energy across a gap, it is the practice of bringing a person, animal or situation into your circle of awareness and sitting with them in the open healing space we work with in the system of Reiki.
Enkaku Chiryo Ho is the practice that most people know as distance healing, and that name is a bit of a misnomer, because there is not really any distance, is there?
If we are talking about Reiki, then we all are Reiki and this is all Reiki. We are in it and it is in us. There is no actual distance going on at all.
So Enkaku Chiryo is the practice of bringing someone or something into your awareness. I like to think of it as your circle of awareness. You bring them into that circle and sit there in the open healing space we work with whenever we practise the system of Reiki. You are sitting there with that person, that animal, whatever it may be, and sharing the experience with your awareness.
Whatever is in our awareness is included. It is a really beautiful practice, and one I love to teach.
The name. Enkaku Chiryō Hō, 遠隔治療法. Enkaku means distant or remote, chiryō means treatment, and hō means method: the method of treating at a distance.
Where it sits in the system. It is taught at Okuden, the second level, and belongs with the techniques that work with the symbols and mantras, though the practice itself is really an extension of meditation: bringing someone into your awareness and staying there. A common misunderstanding. That you are sending something somewhere. You are not sending, and there is no somewhere. You are widening your awareness until the other person is inside it. Try this. Sit, breathe into the hara, and bring one person to mind. Don’t do anything to them. Just stay with them for five minutes and notice what changes in you.
