Reiki Techniques Card Deck: Card 9
September 6, 2023It’s All About Self-Practice (and why that matters) with Reiki Women Podcasts
September 11, 2023I was reminded recently that when many of us began the system of Reiki, we didn’t begin with the Reiki Precepts! Yet, that is the perfect place to begin our Reiki education. In fact, many of us didn’t even know that they were even a part of the system of Reiki!
This inspired me to create a beginner’s look at the foundational element of the system of Reiki—the Reiki Precepts. And, it’s always wise to have a beginner’s mind. So grab a cup of tea and let’s get started!
What Are Reiki Precepts?
The Reiki Precepts are five guiding principles that serve as ethical and moral guidelines for practitioners and a whole lot more. These precepts are:
For today only, I will not anger.
For today only, I will not worry.
For today only, I will be grateful.
For today only, I will do my work honestly.
For today only, I will be compassionate to myself and others.
These principles are more than just affirmations; they are the actual baseline for the system of Reiki. The phrase “For today only” encourages us to focus on the present moment, making the principles immediate in their application.
Why Are They So Crucial?
Reiki is not merely about hands-on healing; it’s about being Reiki—spiritual energy or the way of the Universe itself. When you ARE the precepts, you are Reiki.
How to Incorporate Reiki Precepts into Your Routine
Here are some practical ways to integrate these guidelines into your daily life:
Morning Reflection: Spend 5-10 minutes each morning contemplating one precept that deeply resonates with you. Allow its energy to influence your day.
Evening Chant: Spend time each day chanting the Japanese Reiki Precepts and allowing yourself to fully vibrate with each and every Reiki Precept vowel and consonant. You can chant with me here.
Pause and Reflect: Whenever you’re overwhelmed or anxious, revisit the precepts. They are the grounding elements that can bring you back to center.
Apply Practically: Think about how these precepts can be applied in your interactions, your work, and your self-care routine.
The Role of Other Elements in the system of Reiki
While the precepts are the foundation, other elements like reiju (spiritual blessing), tenohira (hands-on healing), meditations, and symbols and mantras (shirushi and kototama) exist to help us live the Reiki Precepts. They are tools designed to guide us in embodying the way of the Universe.
Take the First Step Today!
There’s no better time to start incorporating Reiki Precepts into your life than now. For today only, choose one precept and let it guide you. See how it changes the quality of your day and your interactions with others.
The journey towards being Reiki starts with these foundational guidelines. So why wait? Start today and remember that you are Reiki.
