When not to offer Reiki: the power of waiting
October 28, 2026As many as you need, and there is no rule. Someone told me recently they had been told four; I have heard three. This is spiritual energy, not a rule book. A chronic illness might call for many; if you just want to relax, one is lovely. Set numbers usually come from a practitioner’s business sense. More treatments are better, so if there is a discount for three, take it, but never think you must.
Great question. Recently someone told me they had been told they had to have four. I have heard three. Why? This is about spiritual energy, not about rules. Throw the rule book out. What you need to do is have Reiki treatments when you need them.
If someone has a chronic illness, they might need lots of treatments; have as many as you can, as often as you can. If you just want to do something relaxing, go and have a treatment. It does not mean you have to have three, or ten, or whatever.
I think the purpose of telling people they need a certain number comes down to business: practitioners trying to lock people in for more treatments. In all honesty, the more treatments you have the better, so that is not a bad thing. If they give you a discount for three, take it. But do not think you have to.
What is actually going on. Nothing in the system specifies a number. Packages are a pricing tool, and an honest practitioner will say so.
What to do. If you are unwell: weekly, or more, until you feel the shift, then space them out. If you are well: whenever you feel like it. If you are a practitioner: offer packages if you like, but tell the client plainly that they can may at one.
When to get help. If a practitioner says you must complete a course before you will feel better, or that stopping early will undo the work, that is a sales line, not the system of Reiki.
